He's living life in the late 1980's as the lead and guitarist for an industrial-rock band. And basically taking time off from directly/properly serving Lucifer and also a vacation from trolling Winchester-Campbells.

He still uses his demon powers to wreak havoc - he just keeps it on the DL and covers things up so he can live under the ruse of a semi-famous human regarded as living an "alternative, satanic lifestyle." If only people knew. Some people do - but those hunters don't last very long.

In his AU, Mary is still dead on schedule - John is starting his hunting obsession and dragging his boys around. Everything is normal in this regard. Other demons are probably more irked at Azazel's "slacking" though than they were when he was "distracted playing footsie with soccer-moms."
